G6 400 Problem

Hi, I recently installed a new hard drive into the above computer.
Everything went fine with the install and re-load. There was then a
power outage and this computer started asking for a password (looked
like a BIOS password) Obviously we didn't put one in to start so
couldn't get on. Someone told us to remove the battery from the
mother board and that might reset the BIOS so we did that......no she
turns on, checks the processor, then the ram and freezes
up.......help!! Any ideas?
