Hi,

I'm wondering about the AGP fast write option and if it has any
bearing on 3DMark results as a friend I bought the graphics card from
claimed he got about 14500 on 3DMark 2001 SE, I got about 12200
1000 on 3DMark05 110, I got about 620
I got 4400 on 3DMark03.
I've tried different NVidia and ASUS drivers but they don't make much
of a difference. I also tried different settings but to no avail. I
noticed in Details (3DMark05) that AGP Fast Write was supported but
disabled (I have it on in the BIOS), does it mean anything performance
wise? The same thing about Sideband Addressing.
Is there maybe a conflict between my MSI motherboard and ASUS graphics
card? Are the results I'm getting what I should expect and my friend
was just BS'ing me? BTW, he had performance wise a slower system than
I.

Regards,
Linus

My system:
MSI K8T Neo Motherboard
AMD Athlon64 3200+
ASUS V9950GE (NVidia 5900)
1 GB Mem

More about : agp fast write v9950

Fast writes have to be supported by both your mobo chipset, it's driver,
your graphics card, and it's driver! So it must be enabled in all 4
places or no go. Use a program like RivaTuner to turn on FW if it's not
already.

But don't worry, if you can turn on FW's and it doesn't cause system
instability, it generally doesn't make a helluva difference anyhow (1-3%
benchmarkable difference).

Have a look at your appeture size, can make a big difference, I suspect that
your friend is not quite telling the truth as well.

Cheers.

The apperture size seems to be 229 Mb, bad or good?

Something seems a little amiss. I get a little more than that with a
softmodded ATI 9500 n.p/Athlon XP 2600+? (slightly o-c'ed 2400+)/512 megs
DDR 333 in a Nforce 1 mobo, running 98SE/W2k/XP Pro (not much difference in
any OS...). My AGP aperture is 128 megs, and FW+SB is on and working...the
5900 should be in my ballpark or maybe a little better with your faster box.
My main box is a bit faster, but that's not a really fair comparison. Are
all the chipset drivers installed, and DX9? Are there any IM or AV apps
running in the background? I always streamline the OS footprint on installs,
as having as little as possible running on startup makes for a more
responsive system.

Not much at all, certainly not enough to slow it down all that much.

Shouldn't be.

Are the results I'm getting what I should expect and my friend

See above...
