has anyone use rivatuner to softmod their 6800nu to get the full 16 pipes
and the extra vertex shader? I have a leadtek and I heard they can be done
easily by riva tuner but am not sure how to. I googled and check forums but
thier is real steps shown how to. any help appericated

Start RivaTuner.
Click on the "Customize" arrow in the "Target Adapter" section.
Click on the "Low-level system settings" icon.
Select the "NVStrap driver" tab.
Click on "Install" and follow instructions.
Check the "Allow enabling hardware masked units" box.
Click on the "Customize" box.
Click to checkmark any "disabled" Pixel or Vertex units.
Use "Apply" and/or "OK" to back your way out of the thing.

If I forgot anything I apologize.

I suppose it could, under the right circumstances. Any time you start
fiddling with stuff like this you run a certain risk. If you don't want to
take the risk, leave the card as is. I applied the procedure to an Asus 6800
and it seems to have suffered no damage, but then again I don't see a hell
of a lot of improvement either.

I unlocked my BFG 6800 OC with no problems but ive heard of people that
had to de-clock their card to keep things stable. Ive also heard that
sometimes only one thing will unlock or neither will.

Good news is that I havent heard of a card dying because of it.

My Vertex shader unlocked but although the pipelines show as unlocked and
unmasked in Rivatuner the extra pipelines are not really there.

Were you able to determine this objectively.

I tried it on my Leadtek but the instant it rebooted there was corruption on
all of the screen. I even tried slowing the speeds down and this still
didn't, the corruption was unbelievable. I did see benchmarks similar to my
overclocked speeds on standard settings.
my desktop could not be watched but games seemed to be OK.

hope you have better luck than I did.

Aquamark and 3D05/03 tests did not change, also I used Everest to have a
look at the GPU and it only shows 12 pipelines but did show the 6th vertex
shader so that was enabled but tests were corrupted when running with the
vertex shader enabled.

I tested mine using 3dmark03. I ran it unlocked, got ~9500. Unlocked it
and ran it again. This time I got 10,300.

Unlocking 16 pipes and an extra vertex shader gives you only an 8% boost in
overall 3DMark scores?

The easiest way is to run a fillrate test in any version of 3DMark...

you only unlock 4 pipelines....the 6800 has 12 active to start with.

Er, that is what I meant, unlocking *to* 16 pipes.
