My son has 2.6 GHz Celeron computer with 768 MBs total RAM (a 256 & a 512
MB mem sticks). He plays Diablo 2 online, plus a few other games.

Yes, I know the best bang for the buck, & a far superior card would be
the 6600GT (I am buying an AGP model right after Christmas for myself & my
Athalon 3200+). But I see the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 just going on sale
right now in a few local electronics chain stores for $59.

What I am wondering is: Is it worth it to buy for his Celeron? How much
of a difference for will it make? Right now he has 64 MBs shared RAM
used by built-into motherboard video chips - maybe nVidia GeForce, or
GEforce2 like I have in mine (sorry I can't check what exactly he has - he
lives with his mother in another city). He has an eMachines brand just I
do if it helps any.

Also another question - is 768 MBs total RAM (maybe 400 MBs free after
boot) for any set-up good, or will jumping up to 1 gig help? Or over 1
gig better?

Oh - wondering - does the CPU ever kick in and help video, or is it all
done by the video card?

Thanks. ...D.

Sorry for the late reply, but, YES, the FX5500 will work just fine with
your set-up. DO remember to disable the integrated graphics before using
it. BTW, the integrated graphics are awful for use with games.

Usually the onboard graphics are disabled when a new card is installed.
Failing that, you should find it in the bios.
