Windosx XP Service Pack #2 automatically installs Version 5.6.7.3
(4/7/2004), but the Gainward site says the older 42.30 (3/3/2003)
drivers are final for that card. Should the driver version installed
by SP2 be replaced by the older 42.30 drivers on the Gainward site?
Secondly, is there any risk in installing the newer 66.93 (9/11/2004)
Nvidia drivers for that old Geforce 2 MX card? Thanks.

Does that go for the WDM VIVO driver as well? The Gainward site has
version 1.23 while the Nvidia site is up to version 2.20. Thanks.

Nothing specific for any of the MX series was added about after 40.xx.
But any driver that is WHQL certified after that is perfectly fine with
your card.

You won't notice any performance benefits from _ANY_ driver with such a
low end MX, but the newer drivers introduce DX9 API compatibility, game
fixes, and general image quality improvements over all cards.

No risk at all, go right ahead. I'd recommend the NVIDIA reference anyhow.

Pretty much, not unless your VIVO was before the NV Personal Cinema
spec, but I think it's been out since the GF2MX, so give it a whirl.

It is best to use the Gainward / NVIDIA driver over Microsoft driver
[generic]. Do not mix-match driver, either install all / through Microsoft
or Gainward but not both.

Gainward WDM should be fine even if you use the latest driver.

There is no Microsoft driver. It is either the 1.23 WDM from the
Gainward website or the 2.20 WDM off of the Nvidia website.
