to all nvidia gurus:

what are the chances of permanent damage? (using RivaTuner to unmask the
hidden pipes) i have a sparkle plain vanilla 6800. would there be a
substantial increase in performance? TIA

Little chance of damage and yes there should a be a noticeable improvement .

RivaTuner couldn't unlock my eVGA 6800. It simply didn't work. Win
some, lose some. At least I do have the 6800 :)

there will be some improvement if the masked pipes are already
defective, but i don't know that i'd call it substantial. my aquamark3
score only went up by about 5%.

In that case it was probably only your vertex shader that is working, the
extra pipelines are probably defective.

I would think defective pipelines shows up as botched colors and pixel
artifacts. Of course, all this can be confirmed with the fillrate and vertex
shader itemized tests in 3DMark.

On mine the pipelines simply do not work and the pixel shaders give
artifacts, bummer. The card does overclock to 340/840 at least so it is not
too bad, runs Doom3 at 50-60fps at high settings & 1600x1200 so I don't
really care.

For what it's worth ... my XFX 6800 does the 16x6 (vs12x5 stock) using
RivaTuner and clocks at 400 (vs 325 stock). Mem is pretty much stuck at the
750 ... it will up to 809 but why bother.

my leadtek showed artefacts all over the place when the extra pipe was
enabled but there was no problem when I tried the shaders on their own. so
I have 12 pipes and 6 shaders, this is a small improvement but it overclocks
to 394/840 so I cant complain(normally I run it at 400/800 for maximum
stability).
even with this I cant get it to run doom3 at any high resolutions or
graphics setting unless I change it and don't restart the game.
some sods are so lucky. 3d benchmarks and HL2 are fine but Doom3 just
doesn't seem to work for me.

My Asus 6800 doesn't seem to show any ill effects from "unmasking" the extra
pipes and shader, but neither does it show any great performance increase.
However, it does seem pretty overclockable since I'm presently at 360,1020.
Doom3 runs ok, framerates are all over the place depending on the action, I
currently have it at 1024x768 (High) 2xAA.

how does it run doom3 for mine stutters until your into the same scene a
couple of times, its as if it runs out of memory and the second time around
it remembers OK.

I would guess it loads textures on-the-fly the first time.

All the multiplayer maps should not have this problem, though.

Not a doom3 player ... I'm trying out different drivers with HL2 and getting
different results. Fyi mobo is P4P800-E with P4 3G clocked at 3.3G, 256M
DDR.

Mine simply wouldn't unmask period. Would the nVidia driver set
possibly cause RivaTuner to not be able to actually change the settings?
On startup, RT does give me a warning about the 67.02 (non WHQL) not
being supported, get a newer version of RT.

Also, seems there are now more of the GT's and Ultras available now. I
think I'll go for a GT pretty soon, give the 6800 to one of my kids :)

Do you mean you can't get to the screen that allows you to check-mark the
extra pipes or that you can, but it doesn't seem to work?

> Anyway i noticed this card has hynix chips. Are they 2.2ns?

I don't know, it just says the "Industries fastest GDDR3 memory". They
wouldn't lie, would they?

That should read 380/840.

You're a man of few words. How did you come to the conclusion that it
"didn't work"?

Ok ... mobo at 10% OC, XFX 6800 at 16x6 (vs 12x5), 400 (vs 325) and 920 (vs
750) using 71.20 drivers is stable for me (no artifacts etc) ... so far.

I mean that i can checkmark the extra pipes/v shader but on reboot RT still
shows 12pp/5vs(so does everest).Currently usin' 66.93 WHQL drivers.Do i have
to do some other things prior to check the extra pp/vs?(except installin'
the nvstrap of course).

On the NVStrap page of the "Low level tweaks" section you also need to
enable the "Allow enabling hardware masked units" checkbox. Did you do that?

It's been awhile since I did it to mine, so I may be forgetting something.
