Hi

A friend of mine has a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440SE 64MB DDR graphics card and
has recently purchased the new Medal of Honour game.

However, when he goes to run it, a message comes up saying the graphics card
does not support directx 8.1.

Any ideas, because the back of the case says the game supports the FX
series.

Thanks.

The MX440 has hardware DirectX 7 support, not DirectX 8.1.

The FX series is the 5xxx chipset, which replaced the Ti4x00 series chips
(which were DX 8 chips) and the MX4xx series. The MX440SE is definitely not
an FX card.

MOH:pA supports the GF3, GF4 Ti, FX, and 6xxx series nVidia cards. The MX440
(and the other GF4 MX chipsets) is closer to a GF2 than the GF4 it's name
suggests. Unfortunately your friend is going to have to replace his card if
he wants to play the game.

GeForce4 MX series can not run Medal of Honor due to not supporting Pixel
Shaders.
Pixel Shader is part of the VGA card hardware that is not available in that
GeForce4 MX series.
These are the some of thee list that also not support Mdel of Honor -
Riva TNT
Riva TNT2 M64, Riva TNT2, Riva TNT2 Pro, Riva TNT2 Ultra, Aladdin TNT2
Vanta
Geforce 256 DDR/SDR
Gefprce2 MX, Geforce2 GTS, Geforce2 GTS Pro, Geforce2 Ultra, Geforce2 Go,
Geforce2 Integrated GPU
Geforce 3, Geforce3 Ti 200, Geforce3 Ti 500
Geforce4MX, Geforce4 MX Go, Geforce4 Integrated GPU
Quadro
Quadro2 EX/MXR, Quadro2 Pro, Quadro2 Go
Quadro4 380 XGL, Quadro4 500 XGL, Quadro4 550 XGL, Quadro4 580 XGL
Quadro NVS

Updating driver will not fix it, hardware [vga] need to be upgrade that will
have these feature.

CapFusion,....

FX is NOT = MX.

Your friend needs to buy a decent video card and consign the MX to the
trash or a jumble/garage sale.

That's what you get for buying a budget card.
