I see the Asus 6800 GT here for $320. I paid $300 for my BFG Tech 6800 OC
(350/700). For $20 more I may as well go for a 6800 GT.

My 6800 has awfully blurry 2d at 1280x1024 at anything over 60 Hz. Totally
unacceptable. The card is going back tomorrow and I think I'm ognna exchange
it and see if it's just a defective card. If this Asus card is known to have
good 2d and also work properly with standard nVidia reference drivers it may
be worth going for that card instead. Thoughts??

Yea youmught have go for 6800GT overclocking a card like a 6800 won't
get the same performance as a 6800GT which you can also overclock even
higher but don't worry the 6800 is just fine but you could have taken
the 6600GT which is better than the 6800 and have it ovecloked it would
have gave like a 6800GT

well 6800 is just fine

Around here the asus 6800 is a 350MHz with 1 GHz/256M Ram and with 12
pipes/5 shaders enabled. The GT is 350MHz with either 750MHz/128M Ram or 1
GHz/256M Ram with 16 pipes and 6 shaders enabled ... good reason to step up
to a GT. If I was buying right now, I'd go with the asus GT ... looks like
good performance/value.

I have the XFX 6800 (because it was available here before the asus). FWIW
.... using the 72.24 drivers on XP, and using RivaTuner, it runs stable at
450MHz with 900GHz/128M Ram with 16 pipes and 6 shaders enabled ... luck of
the draw I guess :).

900Ghz ... as if ... oops ... 900MHz (it'll run 920 tops).

I haven't had any samples from ASUS in a long time, but I remember my
first GeForce from ASUS and it was horrible when it came to desktop use,
but I'm sure things have gotten better since.

Thought I'd try my XFX 6800 (not overclocked) in 2D at 1280x1024, 85hz,
Hitachi 752 monitor ... text is remarkably clear. So now I'm in 2D at
1600x1200, 75hz ... and that too is remakably clear. You musta got a bad
card.

Yeah... I exchanged the old card for another of the same brand/model. 2d
quality is much better, but still blurry/fuzzy. CompUSA sells the XFX brand
IIRC, so I may get one of those when they get them back in stock. I want to
get a card locally so if/when I get problems like this I don't end up
dealing with a company potentially hundreds of miles away or even on the
other coast and get stuck with a bunch of shipping charges. I do have
slightly low voltage on my +5v and +12v raisl (~4.75v and ~11.5v), so I'm
gonna give another power supply a try first and take it from there.

Asus in the Geforce3 days had decidely poor 2D image quality. However, image
quality has been improved across the board over the last three years.
Haven't seen any complaints, but haven't seen any for BFG either, until now.
