Hello to All, I still use an external 56K modem to connect to the internet. Now I have got a cisco 1601 router and would like to use this in my dial-up setup. Can anyone tell me how to use cisco 1601 with my dial-up connection?
This is my set-up.
P4 (Asus) system
56K Web excel modem
Cisco 1601 router with Seril 0, E 0 ports.
its not possible without some kind of expensive adaptor. why are you trying to use that kind of router with a modem? that router is for connecting to base band connections.

Hello Jihiggs, I got the cisco router cos I am studying for the CCNA. I know how to configure that router and at the same time I thought maybe I can use it with my dail-up connection. What sorta adaptor do I need?
dont know if you could get a specific adaptor for the serial port, i do know they sell modems that will work in the gbic slot, it will give you an interface called d0. does that particular model have two ethernet ports? i use two of the 1600 routers and a 2500 router for my test lab. it seems they dont route between the ethernet ports, it seems to act more like a switch.
