This is a public forum, everyone has a right to be here whether other people like them or not, theres a lot of people here that don't like me, but I'm not leaving because of it, thats just tough, they'll just have to live with it, this would be a sorry place if opinions were only onesided, you have as much right as anyone else to express your opinion whether they like it or not.

I honestly won't miss you, you didn't contribute much.

Sept. 23rd is coming soon, there will be pages of discussion each day. The CPU Forum dies in summertime, you did a pretty wild job of being a filler, but now your time and job is done. Off you go, or change.

I expect AMD_Meltdown to turn back here and show us a real troll laughter, unlike the unprofessional you and Ramjet.

I don't think it will be a bad idea if <b><font color=red>Fredi</b></font color=red> agrees to the "Troll Dungeon" forum. It'd be terrific to have such a dang unique community that has a Dungeon forum. It'd just be THE place to go for laughs. It should rightfully be placed with those forums under the "Other" category. The 5 people with the highest post counts and are still active on a regular basis here (which would include Crashman, Eden, & others) would have direct control over the rourouting of threads from future trolls. And also, we could add a subroutine to the forum javascripting , (or whatever they use!) to automatically direct threads of people commonly labled as trolls like AMDMeltdown automatically rerouted by the programming. IT'd be so COOL! THink about the possibilites man!

See i don't want to offend anyone right now but id like to make a point. Ok pope writes a lot of troll posts and posts them. Now a lot of people reply to his post with similar garbage, hence this post and all the ones before me. So i ask the question, are the people who reply to popes troll posts as bad as pope who posted them? I thinks so because if no one replied ,pope would either, write funnier posts, write serious posts or not write posts at all. Now if we all look at this problem logically we will see that there are a few solutions and ways to deal with this. Ok now if popes troll posts offend you, don't look at them and don't reply and thus we will not have to hear you complain. If you want to troll with pope go hard until you get bored. If you think his post are amusing then reply to his funny posts. And finally if you take pope seriously go and get your brain scanned on a regular basis. Now sooner or later pope will calm down and write seriosly and throw in a hilarious one now and again. But all said and done the point i'm making is that you all have an effect on popes attitude and posts and at the end of the day pope has a right to say what he pleases and post what he please within reasons of profanity etc. Its called freedom of speach...

ROFL! What do you think of the "Forum Dungeon" Idea man? It's a nifty solution I beleive. Its a section that won't get in our way if we don't want it to, but exists for trolls, SPAMs and all that other crap that would just be plain annoyying on a normal forum, but with its own specific forum, that would be a gread idea! Pope & AmdMeltdown will be the King & Queen there. Melty weee want you BACK!! It'll be THE place to go after countless hours of helping resolving people's software/hardware issues to restore our mental health and get some laughs & silly debates too. Your name has also been mentioned about the "Dungeon thread" but it seems like with each passing post it seems a little less warrented. However, I'm wondering, why did you bump up POPE's thread that one day?

Reply to UFO_WARVIPER

Ramjet, you have a point on the "Ignore and ye shall receive" philosophy, however, this becomes an issue if you have him spamming the board with TOO MANY threads. It's great to have a humor post in the CPU section, I do not deny you that. But when he posts a lot of threads, putting all those which ask for help or ask to discuss something, it becomes more of a pain.

I wish I could agree with you, but Slvr Phoenix made a big point on this on why it's not true HERE.
Here's quoting Slvr in an answer he did a month ago in the POLLS forum:

Quote :

Normally I'd be the first to stand up for someone's right to free speech. This however, being a privately owned server which we are all choosing to use the services of, does not guarantee anyone free speech nor does it have to. So in this case, popegoldx is out of luck. The owners have a right to punt his arse if they so choose. It's completely different than yelling on the street corner.

This is true. Fredi has all the rights to ban anyone for ANYTHING they say. The forum is open to all countries and therefore no country's laws are inherent to the system this forum works under. Fredi is a VERY reasonable man, he allows the OTHER forum to be laden with sex posts and even the POLLS forum. He rarely will interrupt, and only when there is something serious, will he either do it himself by scanning the forums or someone will tell him about the issue.
But if everyone here desires someone to be banned, usually banning is because his freedom of speech EXCEEDED public norm acceptance, and therefore he is BANNED. Have you ever seen someone banned for any other reason than he wasn't behaving right or exerced a bit too much freedom? (aside from stupid mods who simply hate someone for no reason)

And so, while you raise a good point, your last one doesn't work here.

Reply to Bosse

Point taken and duly ignorant. Even in your own post you put the limitation of "within reasons of profanity etc" on the concept of "freedom of speach". The simple fact is that the freedom of speech doesn't even exist.

Even in America which supposedly has such a constitutionally granted freedom, that freedom is then regulated in so many ways that its existence is only an illusion meant to placate the ignorant masses.

And in the case of an owned location or service (depending on what you consider THGC) it is perfectly within THGCs rights to stipulate rules on what is and isn't acceptable behavior to continue using the service / residing on the location.

So there is absolutely no reason why popegoldx, or any of us for that matter, have this supposed freedom of speech. We don't. It's that simple.

That aside, the choice on what is and isn't acceptable behavior at THGC is under the jurisdiction of the owners, not of us as users. If Fredi wants to punt and ban popegoldx that's one thing, but otherwise the only reason for popegoldx to leave is because he wants to, not because anyone is making him.

You yourself said that we have the right to <i>choose</i>. We can read popegoldx's threads or ignore them. We can post to them, or boycott them. It's all a matter of choice. Just as popegoldx can <i>choose</i> to leave in a huff, of he can <i>choose</i> to ignore the people who dislike him and stay.

And as to your discussion of morality ("<font color=blue>So i ask the question, are the people who reply to popes troll posts as bad as pope who posted them?</font color=blue>" ) I have to say, no, they are not and that your logic is extremely flawed. If someone commits an act of arson and I yell "Fire!" does that make me as guilty as the arsonist just because I brought attention to the situation for others to be aware of? Come on. Get serious.

At least the notion of trolling popegoldx when he writes a trollish thread being an action equal in nature to the original trolling is a somewhat defendable position that <i>might</i> be debatable. (Though even then I personally believe that such is just a return of investment.) Your position however is just flat out without merit. You can hold your opinion all you want, but at least understand how undefendable that belief is.

I wish that I could say I'll miss you popegoldx. The old wisdom of "If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all." comes to mind. So perhaps I'll just leave it as that. I <i>wish</i> that I could say I'll miss you, but I can't. So I won't. Buh-bye and better luck else where.

I agree completely with you ramjet.

If you don't like POPE then ignore him. Thats the best way to sink his threads and discourage him.

But no, everyone seems to enjoy arguing with him over everything.

I dont even understand why our local intel fanboy clic here at Toms even bothered to post a reply to him leaving.
If they would really have wanted to make him look unwanted, unnoticed and uncared for then they would just let his post sink.
But no that would mean missing out on the new POPE thread.

The guy is a THG icon and keeps the blind intelfanboys in check.

I wouldnt doubt they'll try to get everyone kicked out eventually that disagrees with their views.

I bumped his threads up cause all the threads were crap and i thought it was a good way to clean the slate and start a fresh. The dungeon, other comp. tech. forums have a pub that is similar to this idea and they police the forum like Nazis, so the forum has that feeling of i'm being watched, if you say [-peep-] etc or abuse anyone you get banned for a couple of days. Its an idea but it tends to give the forum a bit of a gloomy feel as the colour and the characters soon go elsewhere.

If he doesn't die, he'll get help!!!

Reply to RRAMJET

But they won't have to be banned at all if there is a dungeon. The dungeon will be the palace of the trolls. I don't think trolls would mind it too much if their junk got moved into another forum. Rest assured trolls, your threads will be viewed, replied to, & entertained if the Duneon idea makes an appearance. I have to admit that I couldn't resist giving such a forum a daily visit. No it won't be my primary visit because I am mostly interested in REAL facts about hardware. But it will be a nice place to go if I've had a bad day at school and want to be merry and full of cheeful joyious laughter.

Ya that would be great. So can Fredi set this up? That would be the best place to put the Trolls. That way to read their dribble you have to go to the Troll Dungeon. That way they can rant all they want.

Reply to HardWareBoss

What the heck are you talking about?

Reply to HardWareBoss

It comes down to the intent that the owners of the site had in mind, and I guess the owners just didn't have people dicking off for pleasure in mind. Pope your not a bad guy, once you stopped the insults, My advice to you is to find a site that has your style of posting in mind.

RAMJET this is not a free speech issue, this is an issue of what TOMS forums are about and they are not about catering to peoples egos, its about the exchange of information. There are plenty of places to go on the internet where they encourage people to act any way that they choose. Go there and have all the free speech you want.

I'm all for an open Forum here like a (Dungeon) Most other forums have em and its a good idea.

Personally I feel anyone should be able to post whatever they want, but then I want home addresses so I can kick the crap out of people who make this pesonal and treat others with disrespect. Until people choose to act online the same way they would to someones face you will always have these issues.

Yes i realise that the gerneral discussion must keep to what the forum was designed for. But i believe in ones freedom to express their opinion on a topic or a component. For example i put a post up saying inte were dogs for this reason and that reason. Now i get responses like your not welcome here and go and shoot yourself and f off just to name some of them. So i turn around and respond in a similar mannor, mind you not quit as harsh, and now i'm getting people telling me that i'm disgusting and vulgar, when i didn't initiate the foul words and the personal insults. So i think the real trolls are the ones that come on to a posts like popes and start using profanity and personal insults and refuse to say anything worthwhile or to argue the point raised in the first place, but just want to be abusive. Not many of popes threads have i seen him initiate the abuse, mind you i havn't seen them all. So i ask the question who are the real trolls?

If he doesn't die, he'll get help!!!

I don't like the idea of a Dungeon.
Thats silly, its kind of like creating a nuthouse then throwing everyone thats not crazy, or the usual scenario (THE ONE GOING ON HERE AT THG) is that someone or a group who <b>thinks</b> they are important picks and chooses who is the "troll".

Thats the creation of some kind of heirarchy on the internet, and the internet is supposed to bring everyone to the same level.

Now, seperating forums by interests is one thing. But seperation by by "attitudes" is wrong at a computer website. It shows a lack of something in the community in question.

The mighty POPE might have bugged you, but in ways he was superior to many of you.. he for one is much more humorous than almost all of you, and defeats the intelliots when it comes to wit near all the time.

Acting with a bit of maturity and restraint, such as letting POPES threads simply die, or ignore them if you don't like them is the most odvious solution. It also happens to be the one used in real life situations that parallel such things.

Instead of training your trolls to use the 'dungeon', train yourselves in the art of restraint.

I don't know why trolls would mind an entire forum dedicated to them. Personally, I beleive that would give them the humorous spotlight they want and deserve. Now, if one of these "trolls" posts a half-way decent thread, then it doesn't need to go in the dungeon. I even have a thread of my own that should go in the dungeon. Don't beleive me? Check in the Polls section for "Countermeasures: The Ban Svol Poll" which was created for no useful purpose whatsoever. Obviously, svol has done nothing wrong, I just posted that poll as a satire, or a light mockery his mispelled Countermeasurements poll.

I don't want pope's threads to die. I just don't want them clouding up the CPU forum. One or 2 would be okay every now and then, but you have to admit, as interesting as they are, they are a little excessive. At least Pope would not be attacked by every THG member. I notice a definite change in Pope's character. I don't want him to be banned, and I would probably be dissapointed if that happened. Sending the majority of his threads to the dungeon is the next-best thing. If not, then people will continue to bug Fredi about him, & he'll be banned for sure. It's either the dungeon or he's banned for good. I say Pope stays. Maybe we should make the "Respect my GANGSTA" thread a sticky  !!!!!
