I love the cool things they designed that aren't anywhere near any of the
missions -- places just for explorers.
For example, the glass-covered mall in Foster Valley, south of SF. What a
cool place.
It's also the only place I can think of where you can pick up a pair of
infrared goggles without being on a mission. (It's not in my Brady guide.
It's between the two halves of the mall, on the sidewalk on the north side
of the street.) Anyone know anywhere else you can get the IR goggles?
(Hmm. Maybe Ammu-Nation, now that I think about it -- but who wants to pay.
NEVER buy weapons in a GTA game!)
The roof of the place is a cool place for a stand-off. The side (non-glass
parts) of the roof are no-copter zones. It's fun to stand on the glass to
summon copters, then step off to the side and try to take them out with the
heat-seeker while they flee. Interesting thing: when you hit a fleeing
copter, it blows -- but it doesn't spiral down and crash; it continues to
fly away until it vanishes.

There's a pair of something up on the big Ear. I think they're
actually in front or behind the sand king.

It's the little touches isn't it? I actually enjoy having battles with
the cops when you do that two player cheat on the ps2 to get through
the girlfriends quicker. You can actually target the police
helicopters with your normal guns during this period, as can the GF,
so it's quite easy to rack up five stars in a battle. for some reason
the target doesn't turn with the object, or should I say your gun
doesn't, so if you're firing at a person or car or something that
moves off to one side you can actually stop hitting them. They seem to
know this and will often stand in awkward places and cops often spawn
directly behind you.

Ah. I haven't explored that area in detail yet.

Hmm. I find that usually I can still keep hitting targets that move off
screen. The target icon changes color as I do more and more damage.

It's just in the the two player mode. I just did it again tonight
while dating Denise, many many times finding myself pointing a gun in
the wrong direction and shooting nothing because the target had moved
round behind me or above me to the back. You can even , if you target
early enough on a chopper, see your green cross hairs in one place
while the chopper is shooting at you from elsewhere

Right. I meant two-player.
Do you see the targeting icon registering increasing damage as you fire
(turning red and finally black)? When it's black, you got it, even if
you're still locked onto it. Of course, if it stays green while you're
shooting, you're right: you must not be hitting it. (Figure you probably
know that.)

yup and nope, it stays green. Say it's the chopper. It is flying
straight for me and I target and start firing and I'll see it changing
colour, but then it darts over me and to the rear and my gun will not
follow it and I will not be hitting it. worse still when this happens
you can't just turn your body round and keep firing but you must
release the targeting finger and try again.

I think there's one in Zero's shop, but you might have to do his
missions first. They're easy on the PC (I did them all on the second
attempt), but a nightmare on the PS2.
