It amazes me sometimes how quick some people here are to judge others, and form their opinions of us with just a few words, when they don't even know us at all, and its so easy for them, to write nasty and degrading things toward us, and pop out the insults, when if we met them face to face they wouldn't say a word, I personally place that kind of behavior in the realm of true cowardism.

You know, ksoth used the phrase "I called you out ...". If he had called me out in person - he would have been one sorry ass-whipped idiot. I was gonna offer him bus fare to Tampa so he could call me out in person - I would have met the bus ...

I don't blame some of the posters here - they have their anonymity - and that gives them courage and the boldness they need to stretch their juvenile intellectual legs.

But your right. If they met us face to face - they wouldn't say a word.

They definitely wouldn't have said to our faces some of the things they've said here, of course some of them are very young and immature, and can't begin to understand the wisdom, of just because we were taught to kill, and defend ourselves, doesn't mean we wanted to have to do it, we were prepared for whatever outcome we would face, that did not make us mindless robot zombie killers.

So you resort to violence when someone "calls you out?"

Do you even know what "call you out" means, or atleast what I meant when I said it? Calling someone out is catching them in a false statement/lie/stupid statement. You made 2 stupid statements, so I "called you out" on them.

You just think you're bad ass because you're a military guy. If you can kick my ass, WOW!!! You can beat up someone up who is probably smaller than you, good job! Since when does being able to beat someone up make you important, 4th grade? Do you want to take my lunch money too?

Offer me busfare? Please tell me that was a joke and you seriously aren't one of those terds who threatens to beat someone up over the internet and is actually willing to give the other person their address to "throw down." Please tell me that...

Threatining a good ole' ass-whipping is what's juvenile, not me calling you an idiot in anonymity. You're just all bent because I called you an idiot. Grow up dude.

Someone I don't know and don't care about feels sorry for me. I'm so sad! Someone who's obviously a little weiner because he gets all bent out of shape because someone called him a name (justly, I add). Since when were 4th graders allowed in the military? I think that needs looking into... Seems dangerous to me.

ksoth It seems the more you say, the less respect you're getting because you shine your stupidity like a lighthouse on the shore for all to see, why don't you at least try to wise up and realize that sometimes off references are made to make a point, like when you said, (I'm so sad!) which literally is a lie, because its sarcasm, that doesn't make you a liar, but you sure as hell aren't sad about it either, in the same respect as it doesn't make Jake a liar either. Just because he can make a statement that goes way over your head, that your pitiful efforts to defend against make you look like the 4th grader, and you obviously aren't too far above that, doesn't mean when he doesn't answer you because he's realized you're just too dense to waste the time on, and its better to let you walk around in your ignorance trying to impress yourself, so why don't you just STFU.

But Jake wasn't being sarcastic when he made his stupid comments. He was serious, so I pointed them out. Then, he got all bent out of shape because of it and said he could beat me up. I questioned his seriousness on the threat. Nothing went over my head. Nothing confused me. I made fun of him more for being a juvenile for being one of those people who threats beating someone up over the internet, which he seems to be serious about.

Oh, and you have to die to get a Darwin Award... Not sure what you meant by that, unless you're trying to be clever by inferring you or Jake intellectually killed me, which just isn't that clever.

The fact is, Jake wouldn't be getting all weird if I never called him an idiot. Apparantly he can't handle someone calling him a name over the internet. Maybe it offended him, I don't know...

Who made the stupid statements, me making fun of Jake, or Jake by saying he has guns because America has enemies and video games are what caused Columbine. Those are the two statements he made that I called him an idiot for, and I bet most people would agree with me that those are some pretty stupid things to say.

First of all you labeled his comments stupid, not him.

When you said (He was serious), You can think that he or anyone here is serious, but you do not know that for sure, you take things too literally, how is he going to beat you up as you said on the internet, and you say nothing went over your head, thats not true, you have your opinions others have theirs, that doesn't make anyone of you stupid because your opinions are different.

Just for your information, I don't BS out here, I tell it like it is and like I see it, unless its a joke thread, if I make a statement about something its true, you can count on it, or I will tell you different, you disrespected Jake when you called him stupid and juvenile, no one likes that kind of response from a stranger, nor should you expect them to put up with it, maybe where you come from thats a common way to talk to someone, but not where I come from nor Jake for that matter, a person can be young and still have a high rate of intelligence coupled with courtesy and have a decent conversation between yourselves without degrading insults.

That was a joke, not a plot to intellectually kill you, a joke is a joke, but seeing as how nothing goes over your head we'll overlook that one.

Bravo, you almost got that right, Jakes military service had him in a position of authority, and the men under him respected him, and treated him with respect, he also lived in a realm where defending his country and his honor was and still is a daily task, whether he is active or retired military, its a mind set thing, he and I went through similar training, and when we walk down the streets no one walks up to us and calls us names to our faces. Because we're not going to put up with it, and if it happens we'll take appropriate action, but here in these forums you can seemingly get away with just that.

You seem to me to be a very intelligent individual, why don't you consider adding some respect in your conversations with others here, and I guarantee you'll get it back, but if you choose not to, just keep aiming it at me, I've been here longer than Jake and I'm used to it, and when I've had enough of it, trust me, you'll know it.

I summed up why I called him an idiot like 5 days ago in the other thread. He didn't respond to my comments, so I'm assuming he had not possible retort and accepted his faults. :) I only brought it back up because in this thread he made another silly comment about giving me a bus ticket to Tampa followed by a pleasant ass-whiping. If someone acts that way, they lose about 40 points in the respect department, because those are the statements 14 year olds in "Teen Chat 12" on AOL use.

Well, Jake's military service doesn't mean I need to give him respect or that he deserves respect from me. That's a JP if he can't get on with his new life as a civilian, not a KP. :)

How about this... I consider this topic through. Jake, I should not have called you an idiot because I did not realize you would take such offence to it. I apologize... even though you are still wrong. :)

Hey!!! Some of us around here are squids, too!!!

As a matter of fact...weren't Jake and 4ryan sailors?

Alltaken: The people in the services are usually just like a crosssectional view of the home countries population. They aren't "full" of one type of person. The demographical diversity is better than any other field of work. I would say there is one thing that does differentiate military personell from your average Joe...he has more life-experience than most people get. He has seen more of the world first hand. When I went into the military my political views were very moderate. Now, after visiting these other countries (the Middle East in particular) when a news anchor mentions a place, it is real to me. I remember the people, and times I had there.
Its hard to swallow an argument from a 19 year-old (no offense, we were all there once) foreigner about our country's policies. I like your earnestness and compassion, but I think it is misplaced. The US is not the World's enemy. We have a pretty good system of checks and balances over here...which will probably be played out in the '04 Presidential election. Until that time, Bush is the President and we accept that...we may complain alot, but we do have a voice to change things if we don't like it. Now the people of Iraq and Afghanistan have that option as well.

I think 4ryan was a sailor - I (Jake) was a 1LT in the Combat Engineers, in support of the US's 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One). I've been Platoon Ldr., NATO Recon Officer, Ass't S3 (Battalion Ops and Training) & Battalion S3 (Operations Officer).

When I read that RobD was in an Airborne unit and was HALO qualified - I was kind of humbled. I'm wondering - RobD, were you SAS?
Tough guys!

But you're right, service does give us new perspectives. You know, I'm getting used to everyone criticising the US. But we do have broad shoulders and will, I hope, continue to act when and where we feel it's appropriate and/or necessary.

Me SAS? In my dreams! I did HALO training during my Pathfinder selection. The Pathfinders are basically an advance recon team for the Para's. So, if the regiment goes in, the Pathfinders will be deployed to the area first. Ironically, we only HALO'd during training and once on a NATO op. Every time we went on tour, or when we went to the Gulf, we flew in and marched off the plane. My cousin, who served in the very same Regiment as myself (3 Para. I joined the Para's on his recommendation after talking it over with him at very great length) went to the Falklands and had to sail there. On a cruise ship commandeered by the task force.

I made corporal by 23 and, had I stayed in the forces (left in 95) would have sat my Sargeant's exams that year. The Para's were the predominent feeder regiment for the SAS, and a guy from our company did their selection and basically never came back. Got badged an SAS trooper. Saw him a year later in Belize as we were going over for jungle training, he was there in the RAF canteen waiting to fly back. I caught his eye and he smiled. Couldn't say anything, as their presence their wasn't official. Basically, they were there as part of the SAS Revolutionary Warfare Wing, training other countries special ops teams. The beauty of the SAS is that you'd pass them in the street without a second glance. Usually, you can spot a soldier a mile off due to his haircut, clothing etc. SAS are the only British army unit that are allowed to grow their hair. They are taught to be the grey men, the ones you'd pass by without knowing. Ultra fit and ultra tough. I could have never gotten to that level.

Nice of you to think that though!

<font color=blue>"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I'm very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that" - Bill Shankly</font color=blue>

SAS sound like our Special Ops/Seals - Same dress code, etc. They're based here at Special Ops in Tampa. Met one of the guys at the gym I use. I knew not to ask him questions - he couldn't have answered.

But I did some parachuting in the military - just not airborne school trained. We formed a Division demonstration team that did PR stuff. State fairs, college ROTC day things. That is when the event couldn't schedule the Golden Knights - but I got to jump with them for a week (training).

No kidding??? Fort Riley Kansas??? Gods forsaken flat land???

I fought in the Nam for the 815th, 937th Combat Engineers. After that duty I was assigned to the Big Red One in the same position in Ft. Riley. Spent 18 months living in Junction City. LMAO.

Good to here someone that has done & been where I've been. Although I was a bit of a rebel in the ARMY. Never made it passed E4 in 3 years, even with my tour. Did get a Honorable Discharge though. My hitch was during the draft.

You guys today in the all Volunteer Service are there because you want to be there & want to make a difference. (I don't think your currently active though). Some of our best & brightest serve in our military & I am honored with their & your service to my country!!

Grub, I can't agree with you more! I would like to see a mandatory service of some sort, for 2 years. Be it Peace Corps, Military, whatever, for every 18 year old, just to address the point you brought up. After all what is 2 years anyway? We can't afford to take our freedom for granted anymore. A whole lot of things might change in this country IMO.
