I had the same pb than you ... and the same configuration (mobo
K8-ComboZ and 6600 GT from Point of View). I was afraid of upgrading
the BIOS (from v1.30 to v1.60) because of all the warnings on the
ASROCK website; but thanks to you I dared, and now I'm very happy (Far
Cry, Prince of Persia, WarCraft are running fine).

I have just one question. As I've read a lot of post before yours,
I've downgraded DirectX from 9.0c to 9.0b (some people said that the
9.0c was unstable).
Can you tell me which one you're currently running and if it's 9.0c
whether it is stable or not?

Thanks in advance,

hope to keep in touch with you as we have the same hardware

first of all you can't go back in Directx unless you do a clean install of
the OS.
If you check you are probably running version C, that is if you really did
install it.

Directx 9.0c added Vertex and Pixel Shader 3.0 support, and a few security
issues. Only game i know that uses v.s. 3 and p.s 3 is Far Cry. Both dx
versions are stable, who ever said 9.0c was unstable is talking rubbish. If
you want the full use of that card install 9.0c.

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, The Developers Cut
supports SM 3.0 ( it specifically lists it as a GF6 only mode) and the
visuals are vastly improved in this mode.

You right, it's tough job to downgrade DirectX, but there are some
program to help you to do that. Just in case have look at
http://myappz.tk/ or search on Google.

But thanks to your advice, I will install 9.0c again.
