How hard is it to replace the Hard Drive, the system fan and the heat sink
fan on a Solo 9500 laptop? I'm pretty handy with a screwdriver and can do
most ordinary things on a PC. I've never even seen the insides of a laptop
though - except I did replace the screen assembly on an ancient Solo a few
years ago. I've checked online suppliers and can get the parts easily
enough.
I'm using a bit of guesswork to fix a developing serious problem on my busy
stay-at-home Solo 9500. Periodically I get a repetetively clicking sound
from inside the machine that sounds like a fan blade hitting something. The
sound comes only when the main fan is running. The machine gets hot. Shortly
thereafter the machine crashes, leaving a blue screen that tells me that a
disaster occurred and warning of hardware failure. I'm told to reboot if I
haven't seen the blue screen before and to contact my administrator if I
have. I turn the machine off for a long time, an hour or so, and switch back
on. It boots back into Windows sloooowly and runs perfectly for hours until
it heats up and does it all over again. I'm guessing HDD and fan problems
and would replace all three. Anybody got any suggestions for me? Thanks,
Denzil.
