Hi,

Here is a pretty old machine still running NT4 with a Gladiac 511 (Dual Geforce2
MX 400).
The last Detonator driver that allowed me to set refresh rates above 75 Hz (no
matter what resolution or color depth) was v30.83.
Of course, NT4 is not a gamer's platform and so I 've stuck to older drivers
till now.

However, I'm using a lot of OpenGL programs and I realized that the new OpenGL
1.5 driver are considerable superior (and really faster) to the the older ones.
So I've got the choice: Only 75 Hz (or using a 3rd party tool like Powerstrip,
:-( ) or a slower OpenGL!?

Did anybody manage to get higher refresh rates than 75 Hz on NT4 using Forceware
drivers?
Can I get and install the new OpenGL core separately or could I create a "driver
mix" myself?

Stephan

Hi,

Your probably not going to get much luck to be honest and its due to the age
of your card which your aware of and the fact that not many people on this
board would remember about driver settings for a card they may have owned 3
years back.. you may be lucky and someone may be of more help to you than
myself ! Anyway id bite the bullet and have a look around for a more
uptodate card.. anything gf4 upwards, have a look on ebay youl get one for
the cost of a pair of socks...

Regards

But this wouldn't solve his problem because it's not a card problem,
it's a pure driver problem. And since a GF4 uses the same drivers like
his old GF2 he would have lost some money but still be stuck with
75Hz...

If I find time I can try to evaluate the problem on an NT4 box I have
standing around somewhere...

Hi Benjamin, hi Russ,

I really feel a bit uneasy posting this uncommon (?) question here.
If there is a better group, please redirect me.

However, the card is actively supported by NVIDIA and the latest NT4 driver is
only a few weeks old.
I'm aware of the unified driver model and in fact the control panels look more
or less similar on different Windows and/or for different card versions. It's
mainly the driver version itself that makes a difference how to set some options
(I don't know the English names for these options, sorry).

So, it's not the question *where* to set up the refresh rate - all options are
accessable, but:

a) standard Windows desktop refresh rate settings --> does not work because all
refresh rates > 75Hz disappeared.

b) NVIDIA tab: "show all refresh rates" checkbox --> does not work, still only
refresh rates <= 75Hz (that's the way how to get higher refresh rates using
older drivers)

c) NVIDIA button: "add custom resolution / refresh rates" --> does not work, as
it refuses to add a refresh rates > 75Hz

d) "enhanced timing" (tweak a given setting): partly works but not satisfying
--> see below

I've checked nearly every NV driver > 30.83 up to now:

Up to v5x.xx I can't get the options b) - d) at all (I've tried some tweaking
tools, they didn't help).

The v6x.xx and 7x.xx series give me the options b) - d); however b) and c) does
not work and d) does not work on the (NT4) latest v71.84 (again: refuses to set
sert anything above 75Hz).

d) *does* temporarily work for v66.93 but on reboot or when changing the
resolution these settings are lost.
They *do* permanently remain with v61.76 - and - although I can't really enjoy
to be forced to "tweak" my card that way just to get fundamental
standard functionality - I'd be happy. Unfortunately, this driver has broken
directx support (it's not much you can do with DX on NT4 anyway, but this
drivers produces an unusable flickering, distorted screen).

Upgrading the card is in fact no option (and I had to upgrade first anyway).

Again:
Is there anybody who uses these drivers on NT4 and get more than 75Hz?
This could be due to a specific configuration here (Monitor, Hotfixes, ...).
I realized that there are some monitor related probs on W2K, too. However, NT4
does not have a genuine by-monitor-configuration.

Is there a way to tweak the registry, to mix parts of the drivers or at laeast
to get rid of the directx bug?

Stephan
