Just picked one up (eVga) and love it so far!

So, is this card the 2nd fastest nvidia card right now? Behind the 6800
Ultra or are these new 6400 and 6600 models faster? I believe mine is stock
at 350/1000. Is the Ultra 430/1050 or something?

Just wondering...

The 6800 Ultra and Ultra Extreme are faster than the eVGA 6800 GT, the
rest will never catch up :) I'm also a happy owner of an eVGA 6800 GT.
The sheer bandwidth of the card is pretty amazing. Faster things are
shaping up on the horizon now, but this will tide over for a while I
think.

Yeah with my Sparkle 6800GT, I can just about stomach playing Chronicles of
Riddick at 1600x1200 on a 21" LCD without noticing any slow downs. ;)

is that with a 8 gHz A64X2 and 12 gigs 533 DDR?

A64 3200 @ 2200mhz 1gig RAM. CoR plays great once you knock the shader
down from 2.0++ to 2.0. Like I say 1600x1200 plays well.

Ah, right. I guess I'll go set that to 2.0 and see what kinda diff it
makes.

Riddick, like Far Cry, has sufficient graphics options to get any
current system in trouble. A very nice evaluation tool.

Ah but John, that was an unpleasant surprise... to suddenly find my
fancy new top end GPU bogging down on a measley current game! ;) It
does look good though, don't it? Whew. Far Cry didn't hurt the GT as
bad as Riddick does. Doom3 can hurt it pretty hard too, if you get
under the hood and really fancy things up :) Now, I really wish I had
a monitor that will do 1600x1400. I'm stuck at 1280x1024 on both my
LCD's.

Far Cry and Riddick will be excellent tests for my new dual-7800GT SLI
AMD 4800+ X2 system :) :)

I shall be building a new system in about 3-4 months time ---- so it
is nice to have a current ultimate-performance objective in mind...
(BTW, 7800 is not a typo.... )

I am quite happy with my Hitachi .22 dot-pitch shadow-mask CRT, thank
you... I do photo and video work too - no current LCD has the required
color-match accuracy.

LCD ?

Sorry, the back-light colorimetry is always the culprit. Fakes
the continuous shaped-spectra of CRT emission. The fakes are
getting better, but still not good enough for accurate color-matching.
Plus LCD color bit-depth has still not attained 8-bits per primary (or
complement). Convenient and great for uses where there is no need
for critical color-rendition. For example:- LCDs are inexpensive and
space-efficient as the auxiliary monitors for the workspace displays
in a video-editing suite, with the final monitor being CRT with NTSC
or PAL color-primaries.

/Me - turns pure green! DOH! I wish I may, I wish I might... naaaah!
I'll just save money for it :)

I do a lot of photo, imaging work, but as a hobby and for family. Color
reproduction on this one is passable, but not as good as an upper end
CRT yet. It's good enough for what I do :)
And the LCD's are catching up John. Just read a review and testing of a
new ViewSonic 19" over at AnandTech that puts this one pretty close.

don't hold your breath ;P

the best thing about TFTs is the relaxation on the eyes. As soon as I
got my Viewsonic VX910 and looked at it I could literally feel my eyes
were more relaxed, instantly, and it's the first thing I commented on.

I couldn't believe I'd been looking at a CRT all those years straining
my eyes. My mum always told me monitors are bad for your eyes and I
never really took heed. I just figured that yeah they will affect your
vision if you're on them all the time like a programmer or something,
but never thought it would affect me.

However when I saw my TFT and looked at it I instantly thought how
much strain my eyes were under looking at my previous 19 inch CTX CRT
Ultra Screen.

The colours on my TFT are a lot richer, and more vibrant now, go on
any monitor / computer hardware forum and you'll see tons of posts
about how people noticed the colours came to life and were actually
richer and COLOURED than lookin at a CRT. :)

Lookin at a TFT is like looking at a book, compared to a CRT, much
more relaxed and you let the screen adjust on your eyes, not your eyes
focus on the screen, if u understand :)
