Hello, ok I have just spent the last two and a half hours searching the
internet (Google both in English and Japanese) searching for software that
render japanese street maps. You know streets and tips or mapquest.com? i
want something like that, but for Japan. Can anyone please point me in a
direction or give me some info on where i can find this. thanks.

Unless you actually speak Japanese you're out of luck. None of the
packages that are available in Japan are available in English.
OziExplorer can be taught to recognize a map and give you a "where am I"
fix, but it woun't route or find an address for you.

I've been looking for a few months but found nothing. The closest I've
come is a Tokyo map calibrated for Ozi, but it too is in Japanese. I'm
stitching together an English map, but it will still have to be
calibrated and I'd need to buy additional software to do it, not cost
effective for the week I'll be there.

If I could read/speak Japanese I'd probably have a lot less need for a
GPS system.....

what extra software do you need to buy to calibrate a stitched map?

Hey, can you elaborate on this? It might not be cost effective for one week
there, but I am looking at traveling there extensivly over the next four or
five years. Anywhere from one month to three months at a time. I might
possibly be there for over a year. I am new to pocket pcs and mapping/gps
systems in general. I know a little from the time I spent on the interenet,
but even with that I am still a novice. How do you stitch together an
english street map of Japan? How accurate is it? What software do I need to
stitch and to view the map? Can you give me some more information? Thanks.
