SSD for Windows 7

Hello. New build. I want to have an ssd strictly to run windows7. Nothing more. I will have a velociraptor hdd for my games, movies etc. Now, my question is how many GB should I get for my ssd if I'm only going to run windows 7 on it? How many gb does it take to run windows 7 efficiently on my hard drive?

I've been considering this ssd. Any good for running windows 7?

It's an ocz vertex series 30GB. Is that enough to only run the windows 7 os on it? I'm a newb. Sorry.

Well the size depends on the use, i mean how you are going to use it, if only to run windows 7 and not installing bulky programs or downloading/ saving in the ssd, you should be fine with under 60 gb.

Just windows 7. I'm going to install everything else I have onto a velociraptor hd. Strictly just want an ssd to boot windows 7 64bit very fast.

30GB isn't enough for Win 7, you need at least 60GB. And get the Vertex 2 or Crucial C300 if fit in your budget.

this is the one I use..
upon install I un-installed my HDD's and then with only the SSD installed; I installed my OS.
after completion I re-installed my HDD (went down to just one instead of two),
and took off from there.
win7 sets up all SSD settings.

If I'm just going to install my os, windows 7, on the ssd, why do I need 60GB? The details on newegg say it requires 20GB if I have the 64 bit version. Couldn't I get away with 30 or 40 gb? I plan on using a velociraptor hd to put my games, music, movies on.

then go for it, just keep an eye on it.
you can even set limitations for it..
it's just with a 60GB I don't worry so much and the bigger the SSD the better the performance..

Ok.

I gone use maths.

1- Windows 7 x64 = 20GB
2- Office 2007 = ~700MB
3- Windows 7 x64 updates = ~700MB until today, more are on the way and SP1

Total = 21.4GB

If you keep in mind that the available space of any disk HD or SSD is below of the marked in the box (My C300 is 64GB, with only 59GB available) you will be a little adjusted with that SSD.
