Hi,
I've just upgraded my Radeon 9500 Pro to a Gigabyte 6600GT
(GV-N66T128VP) and I'm having serious problems. Windows works fine but
as soon as I try and run a high powered game e.g. HL2 it plays for a
little while (albeat a bit choppy), minute or two, before textures
start getting corrupted and then it locks up. After this I can still
return to the desktop.
My system setup is as follows :-
Gigabyte 7DXR Motherboard
Enermax 350W PSU (17A on +12V rail)
Athlon XP2400+ with stock HS/Fan (266Mhz FSB)
3x256Mb PC2100 ECC Ram (768Mb total)
Maxtor DiamondMax 9 160Gb hard disk (7200rpm)
Maxtor(Quantum) Fireball 40Gb (7200rpm)
Lite-on CD-RW 52x
Matsushita 6x DVD-ROM
Creative Labs Soundblaster Live Value
Belkin USB2.0 PCI card
3COM 100/10 Network PCI Card
I thought it might be a power issue as I have quite a bit of stuff in
there, so I disconnected the second hard drive, floppy and the CD/DVD
drives, and still didn't have much luck, although it appeared to run
for a couple of minutes longer
I thought it might be a temperature thing as this card has no fan, just
a big heat sink with heat pipes. With the case all closed up and
everything connected the temp idled at about 60C and after running HL2
until it crashed, the temp had gone up to ab 75C. So I opened up the
case and pointed a big desk fan at the PC innards, repeated the test
with most of the kit disconnected as above and HL2 apeared to run a
little longer, but only by a minute or two. The temperatures with this
setup were 50C idle rising to about 55C after running HL2.
I've just done a fresh install of windows and everything so havn't
tested much else 3D wise, though a 3d Demo from nVidia ran really
really slow and 3d Mark 05 was very slow when benchmarking (but did
complete), however it crashed trying to run the demo mode.
Does anyone have any ideas where to go from here, I thought PSU but its
a pretty good Enermax with 17A on the 12V rail and I would have thought
that if this was the problem then disconnecting most stuff would solve
it but it didn't. Does anyone know of any issues with the 7DXR
motherboard??
Please help...
