A bet a benchmark wouldn't find a difference, but I'd follow the
manufacturer and put the fastest RAM in 1 and 3. Just make sure that
they are installed correctly.

The memory wouldn't fit - I ended up calling Gateway - I ordered the wrong
thing - I ordered DDR2 and I should have ordered DDR. While I was on the
phone with them, they said it really didn't matter which slots the new RAM
went into. The replacements arrived today and fit beautifully.
