I just received (from Gateway) 2 1GB DDR2 PC3200 400MHZ to add to this
configuration:

Slot 'J6H1' has 512 MB (serial number 0x0607CF52)
Slot 'J6H2' is Empty
Slot 'J6J1' has 512 MB (serial number 0x060ECF67)
Slot 'J6J2' is Empty

Should I move the 512 MB to slots 2 and 4 and put the new ones in 1 and 3,
or
move them to 3 and 4 and put the new ones in 1 and 2?

A bet a benchmark wouldn't find a difference, but I'd follow the
manufacturer and put the fastest RAM in 1 and 3. Just make sure that
they are installed correctly.

The memory wouldn't fit - I ended up calling Gateway - I ordered the wrong
thing - I ordered DDR2 and I should have ordered DDR. While I was on the
phone with them, they said it really didn't matter which slots the new RAM
went into. The replacements arrived today and fit beautifully.
