Last I heard, the release date was actually in March of 2004.

On the Eidos page it is still "to be announced" for both X-Box and PC.

Hopefully they will hurry up and finish it, or at least give us some updates.

While you are waiting there are a lot of Fan Missions for Thief 1&2. I think I've downloaded about 400 of them, takes up nearly 2gig on my harddrive. The largest file downloads tend to be the best, of course. They have movie sequences, voices, new creatures, huge maps, just well done all around. Also, Darkloader is very good at keeping the save games and settings separate so you can play any of the missions very easily.

http://www.keepofmetalandgold.com Most of the fan missions and programs to run the missions. The largest ones have been taken off, but can be found other places. He has also rated some of them. I would start by downloading the ones with the highest ratings, and the largest file sizes.

http://www.thiefmissions.com Has probably the same amount as the link above, including the large ones that have been removed, but only 1 can be downloaded each day, so make it count.

http://www.thief-thecircle.com Has links to the Thief Fan sites, and some downloads.

http://www.thief2x.com/default2.asp The Home of the Thief 2X Project. They are working on a full 13 or so missions for Thief 2. 6 missions are ready for Beta testing, so it's moving right along.

http://www.blackcatgames.com And this site has a Thief mod for Unreal Tournament. Play as a Thief or as a Guard, multiplayer deathmatch, using shadows to sneak around and become invisible just like the Thief games. They are also working on a Thief mod for UT 2003/2004 when it comes out. Very cool, since I always wanted Thief to have a multiplayer mode.

I think gold has 1 more level/mission than regular Thief 1. I Don't remember if there is anything more than that.

I just went back and it looks like Keep of Metal and Gold has put a few more of the big ones up for download, and I thought I had them all. Guess I'll have more to do after work tonight.

You might start by going to the ABC T2 for a listing of all the Thief 2 levels, and skim down and start with the ones rated 8 and above.

I have a relative who is working on the game and the last that I heard, they are looking to release the game for the summer of 04.

Here's hoping they don't nerf Thief 3 like they did Deus Ex 2...

Even if they can't do some of the new things, like how shadows are visible to the AI and can alert them to your presence, as long as they keep it true to the originals it should be awesome. But you are right that they need to do it right. If it ends up unfinished, or parts are rushed, it can make the whole thing less enjoyable.

I’m looking forward to the huge levels. Where most of the buildings are can be entered and explored rather than the flat fronts that we are used to. Now I just have to decide if I want the X-box or PC version. X-box may run better, but I can use 3D Shutter glasses on the PC.
