Is ther a big difference between the 6600 and the 6600GT? I'm not a huge
gamer, and I'm considering the Gigabyte 6600, but I'm not sure if it would
be worth an extra $50.00 to step up to a 6600GT.

Thanks

There is a huge difference, though if you want to pay less than
6600GT's price you should check out 6800.

Where have you seen a 6800 standard, not LE for less than
6600GT price? They still run near, or over $200.00.

Yes there is a very noticeable difference. The 6600 GT is clocked faster
and uses the faster DDR3 RAM modules.

Yup, he should check either the 6800 or 6800Le 'cause they can be both
unlocked (extra pipelines).

The following two comparisons compare the 6600 and 6600GT, as well as a
number of other cards.

Thanks for the replies. Would the 6600GT be that much better for one who
very rarly plays games? I play the Microsoft Flight Sim from time to time.
Also, I'll play Return to Castle Wolfenstein every now and then. I'm
currently using a Ti-4200 and I'm please for the most part.

Thanks again

What's wrong with keeping the TI-4200? If you only play a few games that
are several years old, why spend the extra money? And if you've just GOT
to spend money, put it into software that may justify a better card B^)

From past experience and from what I've read the 6600 vanilla is about
as powerful as a 5900. The 6600GT is about 2x as powerful as a 6600 in
overall performance.

In other words, if you are faced with spending $100 for a 6600 vs $150
for a 6600GT, buy the GT. It is far more powerful than the 6600.

One other option would be to purchase a 5700Ultra.
I own one and it plays Doom 3 on high detail at 1600x1200 at a decent
frame rate after implementing the performance mods and unzipping the
textures to the HDD. The 6600 is more powerful than the 5700Ultra but
not by much. You may get an extra 5 FPS in Half Life 2 with a 6600 vs
5700U. The reason the 5700Ultra is a decent deal is because you can pick
one up for about $99 shipped at pricewatch and they are good
overclockers (putting them in the league of a 6600). If you can find one
with DDR3 memory grab it since it is probably faster than a stock 6600.

If you are going PCI-E get either a 6600GT or a 6800.
Don't waste your time with the 6600.

Thanks,

I think I will grab a 6600GT for about an extra $40.00. I know I'll wish
that I had if I don't.
