I don't believe that Office XP is compatible.

You can install it, but it is not officially compatible.

Outlook will not work properly or at all. Excel might give you some issues, but the rest of the basic programs should work. Run them in compatibility mode too.

I agree with Pallimud, if you are only using basic Word and Excel functions you should be fine. Using advanced functions like VB script could present problems.
Another option if you can't afford a new version of office is to download the free Open Office, which is mostly compatible with MSO.
