I used my iPAQ to synchronize with 2 PCs - my home PC
and my PC at work. Most of my calendar entries come
from work. For some reason, in order to complete the
synchronization, ActiveSync tries to resolve the
names in some (not all) of the calendar entries and
says it can't resolve some of them. For example entries
for co-workers don't exist on my home computer, and
it prompts me to create an entry. Since I don't want
to create all of those entries, I end up with a bunch
of unresolved calendar entries.

Why does ActiveSync try to do this? Is there a way
to ask ActiveSync not to try and resolve these names?

It's not ActiveSync doing it - it's Outlook. Outlook needs to have the
names in the Contacts list for appointments with contacts attached to
be entered. See http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/unresolveditems.htm, #6
under "What causes..." for the only solution to the problem.

First Categorize your Calendar entries to Work and Personal.

Second, open ActiveSync in your home desktop, click on Options, in the 1st
tab select Calendar and click on Settings, click the 3rd (bottom) radio
button and enter 'Personal' category only.

If you want to avoid appontments with other names, you will have to
categorize them separately and exclude it from the list mentioned above.

If this is not sufficient, if you are a developer, write your own Outlook
alike. Even I was frustrated many a times like you.

Actually this prompts me to ask: Is there any PIM base code available over
which we can add our plugins or does Outlook allow plugins?

ThanQ...

I'm having a problem syncing my Outlook Contact and Calendar data by only
certain categories.

First, you you can't select categories to sync when establishing a new
connection. Therefore you have to sync ALL of your data over before you can
even select categories to filter on. (Dumb)

Second, after I synced all my data over, then when into options and selected
only the categories I want to sync, it doesn't work. I deleted a couple
entries that were not in the category I wanted synced, and the deletion was
synced to my PDA and deleted.

Does anyone know how to get this feature to work correctly

Thanks for the reply.

I guess it's yet another one of those weirdnesses that I'll just
have to learn to live with :)
