Please can somebody give me advice on a decent vga cooler as the fan on my
Radeon 8500 has packed up. It needs to be quiet like the original fan. I'm
from the UK, so advice on where to buy would be welcome to

Zalman ZM80C - a little expensive (£26), but completely passive and
therefore silent on a 8500. Make sure your case has adequate airflow though.

It's only compatible with cards with mounting holes, so you should check
before you buy. Can be used on other cards should you upgrade in the future.

I got mine form www.overclockers.co.uk

The Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer is a great product, but I don't know if its
compatibility stretches back to the 8500. This compatibility chart doesn't
include it: http://www.ocfaq.com/reviews/ArcticCooling/VGASilencer_Rev3/

These thermaltake products are good, but for an 8500 I think you'll need to
use the thermal pad they include:
- Thermaltake Orange Orb (A1116)
- Thermaltake Blue Orb (TGF020)
- Thermaltake Crystal Orb (A1178)
http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/chipset/menu.htm

Zalman tend to use large heatsinks, which are good for quiet systems, but
can put strain on the cards if moved around a lot:
- Zalman ZM55V and FB165
- Zalman ZM17CU and FB165
- Zalman ZM80-HP
http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/product/product.htm

Vantec have a couple of suitable coolers:

- Vantec CCB-A4C
- Vantec CCB-A4P
http://www.vantecusa.com/product-cooling.html

As this article suggests: http://www.cox-internet.com/weapon/weapon/ , then
for £7.24 you can get the Thermaltake Crystal Orb: http://tinyurl.com/2c7so

I use a zalman hsf unit that is much quieter and 10'c cooler than the
default armour plating and fan that came on my 9800xt. however I am not sure
if the 8500 has the same chip positioning to fit the zalman.
