I bought a "cheap" ($50) Apollo 128MB 9200 AGP video card at the
computer fair a few weeks ago. The new catalyst drivers showed it as
a 9200 with a 500MHz RAMDAC. Is it possible that they screwed around
with this card and overclocked it to 500MHz?

It seems to work o.k., but the top of the screen is "crunched" a bit,
as if the monitor is having issues, but the monitor is fine with any
other vidcard. Did the guys overclock this thing? I have NEVER seen
a 9200 (not SE, not Pro) clocked at 500MHz. I also can't get the dual
head to work, even after reading everyone's posts here, so I do not
think that it actually can do it.

I ran to Fry's and picked up a standard 9600 for $100 to check out my
setup; and the new card works perfectly in dual head mode - and the
"cruching" at the top of the screen is gone, too.

After looking at the 9600SE vs 9600 vs 9600Pro, it looked like the
9600 was the only one that supported two MONITORS? The other boxes
only stated support for one monitor and one tv.

Thanks,

Chris

Please note that RAMDAC clock showed by windows display properties is NOT
the core clock of GPU. It has absolutely nothing to do with performance, as
this is not what people mean when they talk about overclocking their card.
To see the gpu (core) and memory clockrate, install RADCLOCKER or RADLINKER.
GPU should be 250-350MHz, memory 175-250MHz (depending on model).

However, all that RAMDAC does is convert digital signals to analog, thus
producing image signals. Now that sure is high. My Powercolor Radeon9600SE
is running 400MHz RAMdac.
