Hello

Came home from work yesterday to find my desktop was corrupt so i re boots
the machine and i find i got all horizontal lines down the screen i try the
graphics card in another machine and it has the same problem :( The card is
a Gainward Geforce 4 ti4600 750/gxp golden sample which i have had clocked
at 320/700 for over a year with no probs i don't think overclocking has
caused this cause its got major cooling components like ram sinks etc... on
it. Looks like now i got to go out and purchase a new graphics card so i
thought i would seek some advice. What would be a good upgrade to a ti4600
with best price/performance ratio i don't have mega amounts of money to
spend so like the high end cards are a no no i was thinking of the FX5700
ultra.

Anyone give me some advice? TIA :)

He did do at the same time as he posted in here.

I suggested a 9800pro as the best value for money, against performance, card
to get.

He did crosspost in both NG. I just upgraded from a TI 4400 and went with
the Sapphire 9800 Pro. Nvidia 5900 XT is the next comparable card ... but
the 9800 Pro is better than the 5900 and about the same price. Don't know
if this is too much money for you but the 9800 Pro is a better way of going
than the 5900XT.
If too much money for you go with the 5700 or the 9600SE .. you don't
mention if you are much of a game player or not.

Well overlocking will kill components eventually and the benefit of ram
sinks is definately questionable and good marketing hype for those that
manufacture them.

Intrigued that you have posted to an ATI group .. will give you the
benefit of doubt about not trolling. If you don't want to play DX9
games such as Far Cry, and all future games, by all means buy the
Nvidia card you suggested. The Nvidia implementation on DX9 is flawed
and wrong, I do not know about it's latest card which is still not on
the shelves but certainly all of the current crop have their problems
with DX9.

If you want to play the latest games and are on a tight budget then
look at the Radeon 9600XT.

The 5700Ultra is the next real upgrade from a 4600, but not by much.
For the same price, you can get the 5900xt ($180) - but at that point,
you might as well spring for the $200 ATI9800Pro which smokes it (in
most games, weak in OpenGL - but still speedy).

I OWN a 9800Pro and 5900(plain) - guess which one is in my main game
rig?
