I just bought a new Toshiba E800 with Pocket Windows 2003.
I love the PDA but for some reason in Word it does not
recognize hand written letters. It is not even a close
approximation to the letter I wrote.
Any advice or suggfestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any examples as what you wrote and what the e800 interrepted? One thing to
remember, when you write on the screen, make sure part of your hand/wrist
does not accidently touch the screen.

Also know that there are four different "recognizers" block, letter,
transcriber and writing and each has it's own quirks and rules.
for the block and letter, select each and tap the "?" and read the
"space" rules to know where to write (it's not obvious) then tap "demo"
and tap the keyboard to see what it expects. "T" is a good example of
unexpected expectations.
Transcriber is much more complicated... select it and tap "help" to see
the many options that you have such as how you "slant" your own writing
"writing" presents you with a "lined" page to write on and you have to
observe the lines... however you can use "zoom" to set the line spacing
and larger spaces generally means better recognigiton of my scrawl.

Chris,
I have an e400. I also encountered a similar problem. I haven't got my PDA with me while I write so I apologise if it's a little hard to understand.
There is an arrow in the bottom left hand corner (from memory...) I had accidentially changed the way that arrow was pointing. Before the change I could write and it would always be recognised but after changing it, it didn't work. I believe (once again from memory) it needs to be pointing to the left(?) for it to recognise it normally. Once I had changed the arrow back to what it was it worked fine. Actually thinking about this I think this actually was in the Notes section and not Word. But it's something to look at in case it's not one of the other suggestions made.
Sorry to make is sound all so confusing.
Regards,
Ash.

The little arrow is part of transcriber, so if you are using that for input,
it has to point in the orientation of writing on the screen or it interprets
all wrong. Check the Transcriber help for which direction the arrow should
point in your situation.
