I recently had a problem with my operating system (Windows XPHome). I
reinstalled my operating system, and am now having difficulty accessing
documents left on my hard disk. I can open some documents but some come up
with "access denied". PCWORLD told me they use a program to overcome this
when copying data but i don't wanna pay them to do it. Any help is most
grateful.
Thanks

Try the following:
Start in secure mode with Network (F8)
Login as Administrator (good chance the password is empty!)
Now you can change the ownership of the files (and also clean out the old
user accounts)

Be careful.
