windows updates and google hijacked

I am running xp home and have automatic updates set, yet when I try to access
the update page it just sits and does not search for updates.
Also when I type a seach into google, it flashes a page of results then goes
to a page with only 1 result even though it says 10 of 33,567 showing.
I ran adaware, spybot and microsofts beta antispy remover.
Please Help!!
