black lines on paper

I have a Canon bubble jet color printer. Whenever I print with the B&W cartridge, I get black ink lines across the page (in the same location on each line of text) as if there is an ink smudge that is getting dragged across the page with each line of text that is printed. I have tried the self-clean option on the printer and tried cleaning the print head and replacing the ink cartridge. Do I need a new print head or do I just need to clean it better? Or is there something else?

The printer is a few years old, but has hardly been used. I thought that I would just buy a new model since the technology has supposedly improved, but many of the display models were printing with the same stripes on the page that I get at home.

alcohol on cotton swabs and througholy clean the heads. Also check head alignment rather than head clean maybe they've been knocked.

If it ain't broke don't fix it
