After the dicey driving in HL2, I downloaded various demos from nvidia.com.
One these was a game called Flatout which features sixties muscle cars
blasting around winding dirt and tar tracks. Flatout is awesome. The cars
are modeled beautifully. Nice damage model with all kinds of parts flying
off and handling problems as the result of accidents and your driver goes
through the windshield spectacularly in serious crashes. It's almost painful
to watch, but hilarious when you realize it's all fake. Tires, water, drums,
cones, billboards and various structures fall apart just like in HL2, but
the driving is oh so good.

Played the pc demo as well and so good i went and bought the X-box version
game. Great stunt fun!
No reason why the HL2 engine can't imitate something like this i would
think.

Flatout runs smooth as glass on my machine even with 8 cars in the frame. I
think if HL2 did something like that with 8 airboats it would lock up my
computer.

In the demo I was trying to jump the flatbed near the end of the lap of the
woods trail and I hit the load on the right while using nitro. It launched
my guy out the windshield and out over the trees. It looked like a flight
sim. Eventually, I landed on the roof of one of the buildings about 600 feet
from the crash site. What a blast.

I d/l'd the demo as well, ran really nice, except it wouldn't work with
my MS Force Feedback wheel. Won't be spending any money on this item,
that's for sure. I was really looking forward to being able to
powerslide through the turns, but it ain't gonna happen.
Nice try, but no takers here.
