it is pathetic how apple makes big headlines out of such things. PANTHER IS COMING, LETS MAKE A COUNTDOWN THAT LASTS MORE THAN 2 WEEKS!. VIRGINIA TECH BUYS THOUSANDS OF G5'S TO MAKE A COMPUTER CLUSTER! BLA BLA BLA USES POWERBOOKS TO COMPOSE MUSIC, NEW COMPANY USES THE NEW MACS! NEW VERSION OF ITUNES AVAILABLE!

this shows how pathetic apple is. they can make a big deal out of little things. i went to a forum once to find out stuff about the ipod, and members there talk about the littlest things and make them look as huge news. "THE NEW DARWING SHELL IS OUT, UPDATE NOW!". im sorry if im offending any mac lovers here, but come one apple, lets have some real big news. here are some more quotes on their main headline ticker shown at the main page
-"New york praises wireless mouse and keyboard"
-"G5's leave other processors on the dust" - Macworld (lol)
-"Adobe creative suite combines photoshop, acrobat....."
-"MACs are far superior than PC's and always be" - SF gate(? who the fvck is that)
-"Apple announces winner of ILIFE educators"

news that nobody gives a [-peep-]. imagine if microsoft, intel and all those PC companies announced every little sh!t they had, it would be a chaos.

ill admit, apple is making a comeback, but they gotta do better than those bullshit comments.

you know whats funny, according to macworld mag "G5's leaves pc in the dust" quote. I mean, what could i expect from them? to say that "pc's are better than macs? of course not, they are a mac magazine and they are supposed to support macs, so that quote is gibberish. its like THG saying "PC's leave macs in the dust"

Isnt a Mac basically a PC but using a RISC based processor ?

They use the ATX format on there machines which is standard for normal PC's. You can say its a just a Clone.

Basically every PC is a Clone if its not a IBM. They get mucho Royalites on the PC design.

There's nothing wrong with Macs IMO, other than the price. I'd love a dual G5 system to tinker with, both with OSX and with linux. I really don't know why people are so against them.

HAlf life2 is one of the most awaited games
New ati drivers are a big deal, since most people with computers either use nvidia or ati, that could even be big news for macs.
sony offering new technology is are big news
Cmos chip bla bla bla.... all this is new tech, stuff that matters

maybe not all of them are all important, but there is surely big things happening, and i do take time reading. but i wouldnt take time reading how MACS BEATS PC AND ALWAYS DID rants.
Yea i agree, it would be fun to have dual g5's, but it would be more fun to have dual athlon64fx, or even dual Xeon's.

Man it's the exact same thing. The only reason you are saying all of that is because you hate macs and like PCs. Hence, PC news is important to you and mac news isn't. I could do the very same thing with the newspaper from Topeka, Kansas because I'll be damned if I give a flying fvck what's big in the news there. Doesn't mean it's any less valid, or that Topeka blows.

No, If THG ever says some stupid sh!t like "PC´s are better than MAC´s and have always been" I wouldnt say "OH YEA, THATS SO TRUE" I would say "NO SH1T THG"
Bill gates has been contributing to a big AIDS cause (IIRC) and you dont see it being published on microsoft do you?.
You´re right, I dont like macs, but what separates me from the rest who hate them is that i have a reason. I have used macs and i think they are terrible. It doesnt offer me anything that a PC cant. And lets not boast much about "reliability" and "crash-proof" cuz ive used mac´s for a few programs they´re good at (used photoshop, shake 3, final cut pro extensively) and they have crashed more than i ever expected. nowadays, windows xp pro and linux can be just as robust as mac os x, and linux can be even more. and lets not talk about hardware, because apple falls way to short on that. One thing i admit, their design is beautiful.

It's called marketing. MANY commercials you see on TV pit their product against someone elses and draw a conclusion (Tide gets your whites whiter!). This is exactly the same. Mac ran some tests and came to the conclusion that Macs can get the job done faster. I don't see how you can slam them for it. If you really don't like that particular advertising style, then why pick on Mac when so many other companies do it?

Okay, so maybe Macs don't offer you anything that a PC can't, but I'm sure that >85% of graphics studios/print shops have their reasons for using Macs over PCs. Again, just because they don't do it for you personally doesn't mean they are crap.

Linux shouldn't even come into play here because you can run x86 linux on a PC and PPC linux on a mac... I don't see why that was brought up. If you want to debate OSX vs XP, that's a different topic; one which the MSblaster worm, RPC exploit, code red, etc etc etc should definitely have an impact on. My freshly installed XP Pro + SP1 install lasted a whole 60 seconds on the net before it was hit by RPC last week. After 5 consecutive reboots while trying to download the patch, I was finally up and running. Well, sort of. I had to wait another hour or two just to download all of the other fixes.

The G5 is a great processor, I don't see how it falls short of anything else. Maybe it can't quite put up the numbers that a state of the art A64 FX can put up, but are you really going to call every processor but the absolute best crap?

There are supercomputers out there that will completely blow away any PC (heh, that mac cluster one for virginia tech for example), but in the hands of an average joe like you or I, the potential would be wasted. A PC would be a POS to someone doing nuclear reaction simulations, but a PC is plenty for a guy like me. But, just as a PC is fine for me, a Mac might be better for someone else.

It's all relative to what you want to do. So sure, maybe Macs don't do it for you, but that doesn't make them crap.

MACS are NOT crap!!!

however i am a designer, my universtiy uses only macs for the design wing of the building, (uses PC's for the other students LOL)

i must say that i prefer using a PC over a MAC anyday.

at the begining of the year i researched getting a computer, i had a preference to get a mac because of compatibility with the ones at uni, it was my first computer purchase, however i chose to get a PC because for 1/2 the price i got a computer 2x better than a 1/2 as good mac!!!!

i got a 2.4Ghz p4 running 1Gb of ram with a 128Mb GFX card, and a 19" flatscreen CRT, as well as a cdrw and dvd drive

for 1/2 the price of a
800Mhz eMAC
running 256 Mb of ram
a 32Mb GFX card
and a 17" CRT monitor




it was all about money in my books and so far i havn't had a single compatibility issue between the two. freehand on mac and PC = the same thing, PS on mac and PC = the same thing blah blah blah, you can basicly get anything you could on a mac for a pC these days (well for designers at least)

Yep, I totally agree with you there. One of the reasons why I don't have a G5 is cause I don't want to give them the $3000 they want for one. You can get much more for your dollar in a PC.

if they were the same price, i am very unsure as to what i'd get, either a mac because of its lovely looks and colours, or a pc because of its compatibility with someof my fav software.

i'd probably get a mac though, just to test one out, but i'd do it on a whole pile of merits at the time so hey i dunno which, they are pretty similar IMO
