Copying Steam to my work PC

Archived from groups: alt.games.half-life (More info?)

I am having problems copying Steam (all) to a diferent computer.
That computer haves a internet connection by a proxy that haves the needed
ports closed and I cant open them (I really cant open them, not even for
just a moment...).

I tried the FAQ solution

but after copying it when I use the same directory it tries to update Steam
and then complains that it cant go to offline mode because there is no
account configurated on the computer. When I use a diferent directory (and
delete the blob file) it gives a error related to operations cant be made
while in offline mode.

Does the FAQ solution only works if I connected to the internet on the first
run?
Any help?

It is frustating not to be able to map on that computer just because I cant
connect to the internet...


(Sorry if this is not the place to ask this, but if it is not I would
appreciate if you could point me to the place)
