Ok, so I'm in the "Gonarch's lair" chapter, I fought the gonarch until it
ran to a place with a net thingy I could fall through, I went down there and
there was a healing pool and such. Then I shot the beast a bunch more, and
it ran down the hall, and down a long drop. If I look over the edge,
gonarch is there waiting for me. If I jump down, it does a "loading..."
just before I hit the ground, at which point either the gonarch claws me to
shreds (or spits acid at me) or, if I landed on the downhill side of it, I
slide down the tunnel through another net thingy and end up in a pit with
ammo, batteries, and... not much else. The gonarch doesn't want to follow
me down the tunnel. According to the planethalflife walkthrough, it sounds
like the gonarch is supposed to go down that tunnel first, but I can't seem
to get that to happen. Any ideas?

Goto the last save before Gonarch drops down if you can find one, otherwise
find the save of you above the edge of the drop. Drop onto the ledge that is
somewhere halfway between the top and botton of the drop. Hopefully
testicle-boy will start moving away. If he doesn't drop completely to the
bottom and shoot his balls until he movies. If that still doesn't work, find
an autosave that occures near the beginning of the map.

I've played HL 4 times, and this same thing happened to me twice.

And the solution is to.... start over? I'm thinking my last save would be
just before I went to Xen, which I suppose would be tolerable (other than
the flying alien things on earth I don't recall anything particularly tough)

I just got past that part myself!!!... Here is how! the second time he runs
away he drops down a hole. If you follow closely and look over the ledge
you can hear him but not see him. What you will see is a light...jump
towards the light on the wall there is a ledge there and you won't loose
health points. You still will not be able to see the spider thing some
where below and in front of you (by the sound of it) At this point you are
only half way down the drop to the bottom where you can see the spider.
Turn slightly to your left and jump down /across ( there a sort of a ledge
there that you can land/slide down to the bottom (again with out injury).
Once at the bottom, slightly to your right will be a tunnel with Gonarch at
the end ready to drop down again. If does not go on his own, "persuade"
him with a short burst to the belly. Ahead of you is the tunnel and a drop.
in my particular experince, as you start down the tunnel the floor becomes
slippery and you start to slide towards the drop. As you near the edge you
will see that Gonarch is waiting below you on a "web" . If you fall into
the web he will slash you to bits, if you fall through the web below you
will incur damage. My advise is that after Gonarch drops to the web you
take a running start and do the "long jump" over Gonarch below. Directly
behind Gonarch there is a very small ledge if you land there you will do so
with out incurring injury. BUT don't stay there long or he will slash you.
instead take a qiuck step or two forward and "fall" to the area below.
There, to the right are three health packs. There are also baby head crabs
and tentacle things. Here is the real trick to this part. There is a sort
of blind spot that you can shot from and get maximum damage to Gonarch with
minimum damage to you. after runing right and picking up power ups, run to
your left and almost all the way to the back wall. Gonarch will be dropping
acid from above and the tentacles below will be striking the puddle and
splashing it about. But from that left back conner you wont get slashed,
however the baby head crabs will find you so act fast! Step close to the
rear of the tentacles. Gornarch will be almost directly to the front and
above you on its web. Now I forgot to mention thta you should have placed a
det pack in the center of the room. ok having set that trap from slightly
behind the tentacles start to fire up into the sack of Gornarch with the
heaviest firepower you got ( I used a short burst of The Gauss Gun and two
rockets) After taking enough damage (Gornarch that is) the web will crumble
and Gornarch will fall to your level. Quickly detonate the det pack which
should be near where he fell. As Gornarch dies he expoldes mightily and
cause damage. To avoid the damage as soon as you see him fall down to die
run to your right and hide closely behind the colum there to avoid most of
the blast damage. Run to the hole and try to come at it at an angle so the
you will land in a healing pool before you enter a portal into the next
stage . which I will warn you is a real bitch and I am stuck there. Well
good luck I hopes this helped
Raf
