I have another computer with windows 98 on it. Well, I had XP on it earlier today and had the same problem. I start up the computer and get a almost completely blank screen. I included a video of it for ya to see what it does. The motherboard is a FIC VA 503+, cpu is k6-2 500, video is rage 128, sound is snd blaster pci 512, has 128 megs of ram. The ram and the video card are new used parts.
well, i read "cmos battery failed". that must mean an error in the cmos. check that the battery is inserted properly and see if there's a bios update for you. if it still doesnt work, i dont know but u may wanna change the battery, but i dont know.

My computer is so fast it proves the theory of relativity wrong...
Well, it worked for a while with the error coming up. I stopped using the comp for a year and am trying again. Think it can be the ram? I can try just one stick in to see what it does.
Well, I tested the ram... It is not that. I have another cpu to test if it could be that.

Dude, if it says CMOS battery failed, then you have to replace it. It may have said it before just as the battery was dying, yet while it still had enough juice to hold the CMOS info.
Some day I'll be rich and famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet.
I bought one at my local hardware store. I'm pretty sure it's a standard size battery.
