Hi all,
Hope you gurus may help.
We have a NT4 Network running NT4 PDC and a BDC we also have 100+ win98 workstations all okay but we have just moved in 41 laptops all with winxp pro on to the network. We run a program called activelink which allows the laptops to log on to domain and map to user areas and set up printers via a central ini file(RM CONNECT 2.4 Network).
The questions I have are as follows.
1) When a user logs on to the laptop in generates a local profile on that laptop for the user this is okay until i come to change the central config file as that user does not pick up the changes because they have a profile on laptop. So what I NEED to have do is when the user logs off the laptop it deletes their local user profile directory. Before any asks the users do not always get the same laptop so I can end up have 30+ profiles on any single 1 laptop.
If you cannot delete profile when user logs off is there any other way the the computer can delete profile automatically at either a logon or logoff or even at a set period of time say once a week.
I have seen different scripts around that delete profiles but when I have tried them they all seem to delete some of the default users ie admin, guest etc do not want them to be deleted.
All the users are members of a certin group Activlinkstudents if that can be used in a script to say "If a memeber of this group then at logoff delete user and user profile" But me no good at VB more a Hardware man.
And where best ti place the scripits to run on the network or on the laptop.
One day the school will go W2k server and the above will not be a problem.
2) Can I setup the laptops to pick up a default user desktop from NT4 Server when they logon so that if I make changes to the desktop ie and new software or shortcuts etc then the users desktop will change. this also if it works might solve my problem 1.
3) also want to map some drives for all users of the laptops but when I map drive under admin user the mapping does not stay when a normal user logs on. Any Advice.
4) this concerns MS Office 2000 but simular problem to above. We have to set default directorys for office so it looks at network for user area clipart etc When I set this up in admin it okay it works but when a user logs on because a new profile is created user gets default save paths and they all point to C Drive on laptop and that can cuase problems becuase users do not all ways check where there work is being saved and some are losing work because the have not saved to network as they just click save or disc icon and do not check what drive they are saving to. so how can i setup the laptop profiles that all users of office have default save paths pointing where ever I have set them up to point at.
