Hi, this afternoon I installed a minty fresh 9800Pro followed by the Cat 4.7
drivers. I go on and play battlefield1942 just fine, no errors. I then
install and play FarCry (beautiful by the way) with no probs. Now...I try
and go back to BF1942. The game loads up just fine, but when I move the
in-game mouse cursor over a button, I go straight to desktop. This happens
in the main menu or after a map has loaded if I use x-fire. To me it seems
there is an issue with whatever FarCry did to my system, but I just don't
know where to start looking to come up with a fix for this. Please help!

Did you change DirectX versions when you installed Far Cry?

Did you set the DirectX sound accelaration too low? This can cause the
problem you have, been there myself. Run DXdiag and have a look on the
sound tab.

I just checked on dxdiag...my sound is on full acceleration. Earlier I
uninstalled DC, DCR, EOD, and BF1942. I did a clean install of BF1942,
patched it to 1.6, then a full install of DC.7. Load the game just fine to
crash to desktop. Again. Later on I'll try uninstalling FarCry and seeing
how that affects BF1942. Thanks for staying on topic, Jan.

Damn, that would have been a quick solution.

I remember a tiny problem I had with Windows 2000. After installing the
Service Pack 1, a few games didn't run anymore, regardless of what I
did. They remained that way, up to the SP4. Haven't tried since I
changed to XP...

Let's just hope you get it working again. Maybe a little driver
fiddling?

Actually, I have. I simply uninstalled FarCry, restarted my system and now
BF and its mods run like butter. I think there are issues with BF1942 and
FarCry sharing my hard drive, maybe they just don't like each other...at any
rate, I'll try reinstalling FarCry and patching it up then seeing how BF
does. Thanks for your help!

Odd. Did you have the FC patch 1.2 installed? It was "recalled" due do
causing problems by some errors in it.

I have them both on the same disk without any trouble so far, but I
didn't install FC 1.2 yet.

Didn't help you much. ;^)
