I have had the same problem as other users below regarding difficulty loging
in after installation.
I managed to get in, but then tried to uninstall the updates (yes I know,
stupid) and now when I login I get an error message referring to internet
explorer, and when this is closed the desktop and icons do not load even
though the system is apparently running (task manager can be called up when i
hig alt/ctl/del)

How can i get my system up and running again?!!!! will I have to erase the
whole thing and start fresh? ???????

Try System Restore to a Date/Time before this started:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
