Windows 7 Backup

Just curious, when I use Windows to make a hard drive backup, including system image, is that similar to using Acronis True Image or Ghost? Later on, if I need to restore a system back to original state with settings and software can I just use the install disk, find the backup file (on external drive) and have it put it on a different hard drive?

yes the version in win 7 will do just fine for that!
