What versions of Pocket PC can you change the screen
orientation?
Or does it depend on the manufacturer?
I am about to purchase a iPaq and want to be sure one of
the older versions will run in landscape mode.
I need this for Pocket Excel.

There are a few Pocket PCs that have limited support for landscape... some
via a built-in software like the old Jornada 548 or some of the older
Toshibas.

The most common solution to this is basically a third party application
called NYDITOT Virtual Display.

This works with most if not all Pocket PCs. It allows you to switch screen
orientation to landscape and back... although requiring a soft reset at
every orientation change...

The next release of the OS which should be available for most (NOT ALL)
iPaqs will support screen rotation. As long as you're not buying one of the
'lower end' models you can upgrade when the new operating system release
comes out.

I'd pick that option rather than buying a dedicated program like Nyditot's
virtual display because the OS upgrade will handle several other issues as
well.
