Is ATI going to produce a performance mid-range card to match Nvidia's
offering?

I intially thought the X600, however this is just a rebadged 9600XT with
pci-x interface.

I picture them refitting the 9800Pro for the "X" family, the same way they
refitted the 8500 for the low end of the 9000 series.
