I bought half-life platinum and bought the retail version of half-life 2.
Subscribed to Steam and registered all of my games. How do I get Steam to
upgrade my half-life to half-life source? Paul

at the moment.. you can't.
Half-Life:Source is a separate game and you need to have bought one of
the steam HL2 packages other than the bronze one to get it. I don't know
if Valve have plans to make it available to other people at any point,
but from what I've heard its not really worth it anyway.

If you buy the Half-Life 2: Collectors Edition(retail version) you get
Counter Strike: Source and Half-Life: Source.

After Steam installed, my original HL kept crashing. The HL source program
runs great. Not sure what the download did to the original.

Nope, with Half-Life Platinum edition he should have it now in his Play
Games menu.
