My Presario 1655 is not powering up. Recently, the battery stopped charging while the power supply was plugged in. So the meter read "0" at all times. Yesterday, it beeped at me twice and went down. Now it won't power up at all. If I take the battery out and put it back in, it sometimes will go to the "Save to Disk Manager" but it won't make it through. Help please.
First try finding solutions on the Compaq support site. If this doesn't help it could be a hardware related problem.
I guess the Voltage Converterboard inside your notebook has died. If you look at your battery-connector you can probably see a small board on top of your systemboard (could be covered by the base cover though, don't open it because it would void ya warranty). If you keep getting problems you should at least see a Compaq Service Engineer on this one. If you're lucky its just the Voltage converterboard (Compaq partno 293728-001) and if you're not its the systemboard and that would get very expensive.. :-(
Try finding someone from who you can borrow it's battery too, maybe it works..
Good luck mate :-)
Success is basically nothing but overcoming the fear of faillure.
I bought the new battery ($130) and that is not the problem. The power supply does not seem to be feeding the computer. It worked and then suddenly it doesn't. I'll have to ship the unit away via Radio Shack, I'm afraid.
The weird thing is that the battery read "0" for at least a month and the power supply was keeping it alive. Then one day it beeped twice at me and was gone. When I got the new battery, it brought the computer back to life and read "40%". But the supply (though the light is lit on the supply pack) is not feeding it. I don't get it.
