I manage a network of about 350 PCs; half of which are XP Pro using a
Corporate CD key, the rest are Win2k. I got the following error on one of my
XP PCs this morning:
In the Application Event Log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows Product Activation
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 3/7/2005
Time: 8:52:02 AM
User: N/A
Computer: xxx016
Description:
An error occurred while the wizard was checking the current Windows product
license. Error Code: 0x80070002
The PC took 1/2 hour to shutdown and when it came back up, there was an
error: Windows XP product key is invalid. It let the user log on and
continue despite the error.
This machine was installed using the Company's corporate image. Can someone
from microsoft give insight. There should be no product activation on
Corporate Key installs are far as I understand.

Microsoft invalidated a great many Volume License keys, as well as MSDN
Universal keys a while ago. If you check with MS you should be able to be
re-issued new keys, they did for us.
