A Matrox G200 has 1/2 the bandwidth of a TNT1 or Rage128 card. Museum piece.

Yes, but the 2D picture of the G200 is still a whole lot better than with
many more modern cards. However, don't pay too much for it. If the asking
price is 20 euros it is way too much.

In case it happens to be the G200 with four monitor outputs, buy it cheap,
sell it and get the 9800 Pro :-)

What, a G200? Its an antique at this point. Only thing it ever had going
for it was good 2D display quality, and it's no better than most current
boards in that regard. They're not in shops because they've been out of
production for several years--Matrox is up to 750 on their numbering
scheme. If it's a "Marvel G200" then it's a good video capture board for
MythTV.

In terms of 3D performance it's not as good as the first generation Radeon
boards.

The Matrox G200, although a great 2D card "in it's time", is a has-been.
Absolutely no good for today's games, and nothing to brag about for 2D
anymore either.

Well, I just threw in a R8500 (to test whether it is alive or not) as a
replacement to a Matrox G400 Millennium (appr. the same age as G200) and
there is a visible difference in the picture. G400 is better. However, if
you have a LCD display, you'd be better off with the more modern cards (due
to lack of a digital output in G200). But for CRT's even the old Matrox
Millenniums and Millennium II's still have one of the best pictures,
qualitywise. Not that the difference would be big enough to matter when
compared to e.g. new Radeons.
