Hi,

I have a strange problem. When I turned on my computer today, win xp
suddently started asking for passwords to my accounts. I did not use
passwords before. Furthermore, a Guest account had suddently appeared,
which I have never created. I did absolutely nothing special to the
computer when I last was logged on. I sincerely hope that someone can
help me with this problem, because as I dont know the passwords to my
own accounts, I can not enter my computer.

Mike;
Try leaving the password blank.
Otherwise something here should help:

Guest account was always there - disabled by default - but always there.
And if you cannot log on - how do you know there is a guest account? heh

XP Home or XP Pro?
Classic logon or Welcome screen logon?

If XP Home, have you tried Safe Mode boot and logging in as "administrator"
with no password?
If XP Professional and Welcome Screen logon, have you tried CTRL+ALT+DEL
twice and logging in as "administrator" with no password?

How to Log On to Windows XP If You Forget Your Password
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305

Log in using safe mode..
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222

Hack your password:

Another Password Hack:

However, the message you are getting is far from indicative of having a
password.. If you somehow CAN logon as an administrative user (if Home, the
administrator user in safe mode is your best bet) - then look here:

Start -> Run
gpedit.msc

Computer Configuration
Windows Settings
Security Settings
Local Policies
User Rights Assignment

Look at the :
- Deny Log on Locally (Make sure your user and/or group(s) your user is in
is not listed here.)
- Log on locally (Make sure your user and/or group(s) your user is in is
listed here.)

Did you set a password for the Administrator account when XP was first
setup? If not boot into Safe Mode (hit F5 while system is booting and select
Safe Mode from the options) and then click on the Admin account with the
password box left blank. If you can get in this way you can reset your
password and disable the Guest account :)

Hi

Please try this:

Boot into Safe Mode (tap F8 repeatedly early in the computer/Windows
startup process)

Select "Last Known Good Configuration"

I really appreciate all suggestions. I tried to start windows with
"Last known good configuration", but without any luck. I have also
tried to log on as administrator in safe mode, but that doesnt work
either.

Hi

You might try to reset the local Administrator password with one of
the methods mentioned here (creating the boot cd/floppy on another
computer):
