First I though I had removed a Memory heat sink, but that's not it... Take
a look at what came off my card, that's the metal plate on the upper right
corner.

What's the impact of this??? Will my card overheat?

Yes, that heatspreader is necessary. Purchase some Arctic Alumina thermal
adhesive and glue it back on.

Newer 9700 cards don't have that heatspreader there, due to better power
circuitry design.
