Ad-aware: What should I delete?

I want to install XP SP2, read the prep info on the web, downloaded nad ran
ad-aware. Ad-aware does not tell you what you should and shouldn't delete. I
know there are some things I shouldn't delete and was wondering if someone
could help me decipher exactly what items to take action against. I saved my
log file but it is very large and I did not want to post it. If any one can
help...it would be greatly apprecaited.

To be honest when I am confronted with a bunch of things to delete with
AdAware I simply select to delete 'em all. I know... I know... It's never
actually harmed me. I'd delete anything critical though at the least. Much
of what's found is probably cookies and the like but you can/should probably
delete 'em all. I've never had a problem after doing so but before you do
you should download this in case your 'net connection ends up faulty:

Before you delete anything with Adaware download WinsockXPfix. Some malware
damages your internet settings in the registry. When adaware removes it you
will not be able to connect to the Internet. If this happens you can fix it
with WinsockXPfix. You can download it here:

I did exactly what you suggest and that is how I ended up with my new
computer My old one wouldn't even boot after I deleted some registry items.

Your welcome. I use MS Antispyware and find it to be very effective. It is
beta software though. You may want to wait until the final version is
released. I have found the beta good enough that I would pay for the final
release. I like the real time protection it offers. It seems to cause less
problems than other antispyware programs I have tried that offer this
feature. As spyware seems to evolve faster than even virii I use several
programs and scan my computer once a week. I use Adaware SE, Spybot Search
and Destroy, HijackThis, and MS antispyware. All of them have found spyware
the other's have missed.
