I just got a LG DVD player. I went to ati's site to get the dvd drivers to
accompany my AIW 32 meg radeon.

It tells me I need the original CD to validate drivers. This card is like 3
or 4 years old now and the original CD is nowhere to be found.

How can I install the software ?

Not sure if you're trying to install drivers for player or software to be
able to watch dvd movies? What os are you running 'cause win 98 and up
should load drivers for optical drives automatically.

The ATI decoder is licensed software that ATI has to pay a royalty on, so
they have to charge for it. I don't know why they don't make it available
for for-pay download, but they don't, so you have to buy the CD from them
for ten bucks or so.

Or you could go with a different player, there are several. But you'll have
to pay more for any of them than you would for the ATI CD.

I use "Power Dvd" that came with my Lg player. You should see if you have
that software. Sometimes your motherboard maker even supply's you with it.
Another software is called "Win Dvd". There both use to play dvd's on your
computer. It shoudn't be hard to get them . I personally have a few from
just upgrading opical drives and MB.

How come your drive didn't come with a software DVD player? All drives
come with a lite version of PowerDVD or WinDVD usully. Did you buy it
used?

Retail drives do, OEM drives don't.

Not always true. Newegg offers most of their OEM optical drives
either without software or with software for around $5.00 more. I've
found this to be true with CD burners, DVD readers and DVD/CD burners
for the most part.

OEM too. I only buy OEM and they always come with a software player
and the burners always come with burning software, OEM or Retail.

I've never been given the choice here in Canada. I always buy OEM
drives and always get software with them. No extra cost.

Probably depends on brand.

All you need is an MPEG2 software codec to watch DVDs. Just download WinDVD.

It was a new drive.. OEM. Drive only with the manual and the audio cable and
4 screws

However, I have heard some suggestions on getting "power dvd" and it turns
out my friend has a copy of it for me. :)

I would have preferred to have all the ati software working but it looks
like i shall persue the alternative.

Thx to those that helped.
